Due to the sudden passing of Attorney Tom Mesereau's sister, Judge Rodney Melville has granted a continuance until Monday, February 14th, 2005.

"I think we have enough (potential) jurors," were the words of Judge Rodney Melville yesterday as he brought proceedings to an early finish. "By my estimation, we have 250 people who are qualified (for duty)," said Melville, according to the Santa Maria Times. He then adjourned the court early, convinced he does not need to see the rest of 700 people who were summoned, of which there were about 300.
Michael Jackson Has His Day in Court

Michael Jackson appeared in court yesterday for what was the first day of his trial. The proceeding saw 300 potential jurors enter the courtroom in groups. "I assume you'd rather be somewhere else," Judge Rodney Melville said, according to the news-press. "I appreciate your making a sacrifice to be here. Jurors are the foundation of this country's system of justice that is thought of so highly." Michael had to wait over an hour for the first group of jurors to arrive.

These materials are squarely covered by Judge Melville's Protective Order. We consider the release of these materials to be a violation of the law. Some media commentators have alleged that we are responsible for these leaks. We are not. These accusations are irresponsible, unfounded and untrue."

SANTA MARIA, CA – Today, Santa Maria Superior Court Judge Rodney Melville decided not to rule on the Prosecution's motion to bring in alleged ‘prior acts' of abuse, at this time. Prosecutors are attempting to present evidence of similar alleged "prior acts," even though Michael Jackson has never actually been tried in a court on those issues.
Mesereau Calls Prosecution 'Vindictive'

SANTA MARIA, CA - Today Santa Maria Superior Court Judge Rodney Melville denied bids by Michael Jackson's lawyers to throw out the charges against him or delay his trial by six weeks. Attorneys for Michael Jackson argued that a grand jury indictment should be dismissed due to "outrageous government conduct" by the chief prosecutor, who they claimed was engaged in a personal witch-hunt against Jackson.
